Crafting Unconventional Narratives: Noa Yedlin’s Journey in Literature (and Television)

Where do crazy/strange ideas come from? What kind of research is needed in order to write about Nobel prizes and dead bodies? And how do you turn your own novel into a successful TV series? A fascinating lecture that reveals the behind-the-scenes of the literary act, including clips from the TV series.

The Secret Life of Friendships

Join UJA-Federation and The New York Jewish Week for a Folio series featuring Noa Yedlin, the author of the best-selling book Stockholm that inspired an award-winning Israeli television show. Noa’s novel is a dark comedy set in Tel Aviv about a group of friends who have been close since their army days, fifty years ago — closer than they are to anyone else.

Noa will be joined by one of Israel’s most celebrated actors for a conversation — Dovale Glickman— who starred in Shtisel and plays one of the old army buddies in this television series.

This event will be moderated by Sandee Brawarsky

The Pen and the Sword

Join Us for The Pen and the Sword: Contemporary Israeli Writers on Israel’s Future

An unforgettable online conversation series

Join the Jewish Telegraphic Agency to hear from five remarkable Israeli authors at this pivotal moment in Israel’s history. In each of these five intimate, probing, meaningful conversations, we’ll discuss what it’s like to be a writer in Israel now, what each author’s work reflects about contemporary Israel, and what this moment means for their work, and Israeli literature as a whole.

These sessions — featuring celebrated authors Zeruya Shalev, Iddo Gefen, Hila Blum, Roee Chen, and Noa Yedlin — will offer new windows into the life of Israelis now and fresh insights into what it means to create as an Israeli artist today.

Sign up now using the code JTADAILY — just for readers of JTA’s Daily Briefing — and you’ll get 20% off the course fee.

We look forward seeing you on November 9th at 1:00 pm ET for the first session.
